Why is your buttercream better?

First and foremost, shortening is NEVER used in any HoneyLove icing. This is a very common ingredient found in many, many baker's icing recipes to avoid melting in hot weather. It's also much cheaper than butter, so it can help to keep their costs down. Many baker's swear by it, but not this one. Buttercream should be just that: BUTTER. And to sweeten the pie, or cake, for that matter, HoneyLove only uses real cream and butter without added hormones or antibiotics.

What do you use to decorate your cakes?

The majority of cakes are iced with buttercream and decorated with fondant details. Icing sheets and an edible ink printer may also be used in instances where patterns or intricate details are needed. The use of edible wafer paper is a hot new trend commonly used for creating delicate flowers by hand. These flowers are commonly used to create depth and variety when mixed with sugar flowers in floral arrangements on wedding cakes.

Do you freeze your cakes?

No. Some people believe that by freezing a cake and thawing before icing, it can help to add moisture. This isn't a technique that has been mastered in this kitchen, so cakes are baked fresh for each order - every time.

I'd like to taste a few items before I decide. Do you offer free samples?

We occasionally offer small samples of items in our case, but the best way to taste more than one cake flavor is to pick up variety pack from our case. Pre-ordered cake tasting boxes are available for wedding orders for $40. For orders over $400, a credit of $20 is applied to your order when you book within 30 days of your tasting. Because they are baked fresh, tasting boxes must be booked in advance. Online orders are now available.

Do we have to set up a formal, sit-down consultation?

No. Life is crazy. It's often difficult to get schedules to align. HLC caters to busy brides who have a good idea of what they're looking for in a wedding cake. If you know how many people you need to serve and a general idea of what you want your wedding cake to look like, leave the rest to HoneyLove. If you prefer to sit down and talk, appointments may be scheduled. Seating is very limited in our little shop, so we ask that only two people arrive for the appointment.

Do you have a minimum order for weddings?

Absolutely not. HoneyLove accepts all sizes of wedding cake orders. We do, however, have a minimum order of $400 for delivery.

Is this a business or a home?

HoneyLove Cakery started out in Arlington as a home-based business, but May of 2016 marked a big milestone when we moved to a brand new retail bakery in Hurst. Some search engines may note two locations until we get them all changed over, so be sure to visit the 1222 West Hurst Boulevard location in Hurst.

How much notice do you need to place an order?

One week is sometimes enough notice to work in an order, but during certain times of the year, particularly wedding season, the calendar is often filled up 4-6 weeks in advance. It's always recommended to place your order as soon as you know your party date.

Do you offer special dietary options, such as gluten-free, nut-free, or dairy-free?

We do not make gluten-free cakes, but occasionally we do offer gluten-friendly cookies and desserts. They are not recommended for severe allergies, but are suitable for the gluten sensitive.

How are your wedding cakes priced? Do they cost more than custom party cakes?

All HoneyLove cakes are priced by the slice, which start at $4.00 per slice, and can go up from there depending on how many tiers, the shape of the cake, and the intricacy of the design. Pricing for party and wedding cake slices are actually the same, but wedding cake slices are smaller to provide more servings than party cakes, so the number of servings is where your price difference is found. Take a look at HoneyLove's wedding cake prices here.

How early should I book my wedding cake?

Ideally, six to eight months in advance is usually enough time to guarantee that you're date hasn't booked up. If you like to plan ahead, you're welcomed to book as far in advance as you'd like, though you'll want to be sure that HoneyLove is your top choice because a booking deposit of 50% is due to save your date and it is nonrefundable. Booking early does lock in current pricing. *TIP: Wedding dates in April, May, June, and October book up first.
