Superman & Swiss Meringue
Something about that title makes me giggle. Maybe it's because I felt like Superman this week when I conquered my fear of a cooked icing and mastered the artistry of a perfect meringue icing. You may be thinking that it's just icing, but a beautiful meringue is to me like Kryptonite is to Superman. ;) Until now. (Mwahahahaha!!!) I have already added it to the HoneyLove menu as a cupcake icing or filling flavor. I haven't tried it out on the outside of a cake, yet, so I'm limiting that option for now. I have to be sure that it will be stable enough to hold up on the outside without melting. It will also need to achieve a perfect smoothness and handle being decorated with fondant. More experimenting is to come.
I had intended to take the week off from the kitchen to get caught up on all of the administrative insanity that I seem to have fallen behind on. I have cakes to design and numbers to crunch. Oh, desk work... another nemesis. *sigh*
So, how lucky was I that Superman came calling? SO lucky! And I must say that this one turned out quite lovely and clean. :)
Here's is Cash's 5th birthday cake; a 6" and 4" vanilla bean beauty with buttercream and fondant details.

There's something about a superhero cake that you just HAVE to love.
