A message from the owner
Hi there, HoneyLoves!
I cannot express to you how grateful I am so have such a WONDERFUL HoneyLove family. Our little bakery has really begun to blossom in the Hurst community and we are so happy to be part of this great town. The past few years have been a whirlwind of ups and downs, scary times and exciting accomplishments. I have had the real pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people throughout this journey and I am genuinely humbled by your constant support. I am truly excited about what the future has in store for HoneyLove, and I can't wait to share it all with you.
With that said, I'd like to shift the subject to one that has been eating at me all week. Unhappy customers and how we are treated by few.
In light of a few reviews we've received recently, I'd like to go ahead address them all at once in this post. I have never made a habit of replying to reviews until now, but given the nastiness that I have seen over the last week in emails and in reviews I cannot stand idol any longer and take this abuse silently.
First, I'd like to put our process into perspective for you. We have a staff of five PART-TIMERS that manage to produce the following items while taking orders, answering phones, stocking, and maintaining a clean, functioning storefront while serving dozens of customers a day, sending out quotes, meeting with brides, and working on contracts. Not to mention the time it takes to decorate...
- Custom Cakes
- Wedding Cakes
- Several cookie recipes
- Ice cream sandwiches & cookie bowls
- Carrot Cake
- Frosted cookies
- Four kinds of brownies & brownie bites
- Petit Fours
- Cake and Dessert Jars (several varieties)
- Cake top packs
- Lemon, cherry, & blueberry bars
- Cookie bars
- Cake and dessert shots
- Divinity and Puppy Chow
- Rice Krispy Treats (several varieties)
- Cinnamon Rolls
Five badass people do all of this. FIVE, between the hours of 10am-6pm four days a week, and 10am-3pm on Saturdays. And we're never there at the same time.
My day starts at 4:30am baking the dozens of dozens of cupcakes for our case every day. I run the errands, do the shopping, the ordering, the payroll, the bills, and the bookkeeping. I hire. I fire. I pull all-nighters. It's the life of a small business owner, right? I gladly accept it. I love it. I would do it all over again.
I WORK FOR FREE. I work 60+ hours a week to run the heck out of this business and I've done it all WITHOUT A SINGLE PAYCHECK (and a mountain of debt) since we opened. I have slaved for this dream and I will continue to do so until I decide otherwise - not the other way around. And I will be damned if I will stand idol while my girls and I get knocked down by these hateful comments and ridiculous expectations.
Here's what I do NOT love. I do NOT love being screamed at, threatened, flipped off, and slandered over a jar of banana pudding that was half eaten and returned for an expected full refund. I do NOT love moving mountains and working endless hours creating beautiful pieces of edible artwork, only to get screamed at because it wasn't EXACTLY what you imagined in your mind. I did NOT appreciate the woman who sent her husband in with an empty cupcake container that she expected me to fill up for FREE as a last minute donation to her son's sports team, to call later and accuse me up being unkind for saying no! Uh... NO!
UNKIND is people who wish horrible things upon other people when your demands aren't met. UNKIND is slandering small businesses in reviews without any validity or truth. UNKIND is expecting a handout from someone who doesn't know you or owe you anything. UNKIND is ugliness towards us because you assumed you could walk in for a consultation without making an actual appointment (and paying for it like everyone else does). UNKIND is waiting several days to return our call about finishing up your order, only to discover that there was no longer time to fit your cake in 3 DAYS before you wanted it and then slamming us because it was "our fault" for not getting your call while we were closed over the weekend. UNKIND is leaving a nasty message on my voicemail because you showed up over an hour after we closed to pick up your order. Uh huh. That was my fault for sure.
We take great pride in our work. We put our biggest effort into every design we create and we do our best to be sure that our vision is on point with yours every time. We are good people who genuinely care about our clients and the outcome of every order. We are also human beings with feelings. We are not perfect and we do make mistakes sometimes, but we will always treat you with the dignity that you respect, regardless of race, religion, or who you voted for.
Please be patient with us while we work through these growing pains. We're doing our best and we truly appreciate your understanding.
